HOME REMEDIES OF COMMON COLD

When you or someone in your home catches a cold, simple home remedies can help manage symptoms and provide relief. Here are some easy and effective tips:

1.Stay Hydrated by Drinking plenty of fluids like water, herbal teas(such as rosemary tea), and soups. Staying hydrated helps to thin mucus and keeps you from becoming dehydrated.

2. You can also gargle saltwater. Gargling warm salt water can soothe a sore throat. Mix a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle several times a day.

3. Ensure you get plenty of rest. Your body needs energy to fight off the infection, and resting helps your immune system work more effectively.

4. Steam Inhalation: Inhale steam from a bowl of hot water. This helps to ease nasal congestion. Be careful not to burn yourself and keep the steam session short.

5. Honey and Lemon Water: A mixture of honey and lemon in warm water can relieve throat irritation. Honey has natural soothing properties, while lemon provides a dose of vitamin C.

6. Nasal Saline Irrigation: Use a saline spray or rinse to clear your nose. This can help relieve congestion and improve breathing. Also use a clean handkerchief or tissue paper( dispose after use) to clean your nose every time.

HOW TO TREAT SYMPTOMS OF COMMON COLD.

If home remedies are not enough, over the-counter medications can help relieve symptom:

1. Analgesics: Pain relievers like Panadol or Brufen, can reduce fever, aches, and pains.

2. Decongestants: Oral or topical decongestants (e.g., oxymetazoline) can help reduce nasal congestion and blockage of the nose. Use topical decongestants sparingly to prevent the cold from re-emerging (Ask your pharmacist on to guide you on use of decongestants)

3. Use Antihistamines such as Cetrizine, to prevent sneezing and runny nose.

CAUTION:

DO NOT form the habit of  using Antibiotics in cases of common cold. Antibiotics are not effective against viruses which cause the common cold. They should only be used if your doctor or pharmacist suspects an infection.

Seek Medical Attention: If symptoms do not improve after a few days, seek medical attention. Persistent or severe symptoms may indicate a more serious condition.
